This year, Macromedia -- the company that makes Flash and Shockwave -- has posted a $305 million quarterly loss, laid off 110 people and lost a $2.8 million copyright infringement suit to Adobe.
But for all the company's apparent troubles, in the last week there's been a lot of good feeling directed toward the firm, with people saying that Macromedia is one of the few companies to appreciate the new topography of the Web.
That's because Macromedia is blogging.
Not only has the company started to tailor its software to the needs of people who run their own weblogs, but it's also dived headlong into the much-hyped "blogosphere" itself, setting up its own weblogs as a way to nurture ties with its customers.
Macromedia calls this "the blog strategy," and some see the company's moves as the start of a trend. These days, it's almost unfashionable for a self-respecting Webophile to not have his own blog; if Macromedia's effort is any indication, soon a tech company that doesn't embrace weblogs may seem equally dated.
(For the uninitiated, a weblog -- or blog -- is a frequently updated website of personal ideas, thoughts, musings, news, information, or discussions of what one has eaten for breakfast.)

Summer 2002
----------------
June 18 - August 13
| MBA500 | Economic Analysis | TR | 8:00 - 10:30 |
| MBA624 | Strategic Management of Technology and Innovation | TR | 8:00 - 10:30 |
Many students have asked for other course offerings and times.
Below are some of the requests:
MBA624 Summer time change request
"We are really interested in changing the [MBA624 Summer class] time for two
reasons. First, it is the summer time and who really wants to be in school from
8-10 in the summer. Second, the students that were primarily taking their Core
(600-605) classes this year haven't had the opportunity to take an early class
all year."
MBA604 Fall addition request
"I am interested in taking the MBA 604 in the fall so I can graduate in the
spring. I did not want to take any courses in the spring because I wanted to
focus on the capstone courses (I know you have to devote a great deal of time to
those courses). If I have to wait until the spring module to take the MBA 604
course then that takes some of my attention away from devoting my time to the
capstones. I have talked to several students that are interested in taking the
MBA 604 course in the fall."
The MBA SO officer elections were held in April.
The new officers are:
President - Amr Abbas
Vice President - Michelle Reiter
Treasurer - Michelle G.
Public Relations - Cristen Gregory
Congratulations to the new 2002-2003 MBA SO officers.
The Graduate Student Council is hosting an end of year picnic!
Date: Saturday, June 15, 2002
Time: 11am - 1pm
Place: Patio outside Medaille's cafeteria (if the weather doesn't cooperate, it will be indoors!)
Cost: Free!!
On the Menu: hot dogs, hamburgers, baked beans, fruit, pasta salad, potato salad, beverages, desserts
What to bring: Any questions, comments, or concerns that you have regarding your program or what you would like to see changed or addressed at Medaille
The Graduate Student Council needs members from the MBA program to join the Council for next year. We're looking for a number of people.
It involves meeting for one Saturday a month, and any activities decided upon by the majority of the Council.
The advisor to the GSC is Clayton Steen. Members currently are Karen Pasternak (MsEd), Gladys (MsEd), Stephanie Malinenko (MBA) and Sheila Traficante (MBA).
If anyone is interested we would greatly appreciate if they came to the picnic and talked with any of the members, or email Sheila or Clayton at any time.
In addition, the
GSC would like to try and organize another picnic in
the fall with food, drinks, music and fun that would
include the graduate members (MBA and MsEd) of Medaille
and their family. The GSC is looking for anyone
interested who would like to help the GSC in
organizing this event.
