Ripples and Quakes

Turmoil at Medaille

As many of you know, in February / March there was Turmoil at Medaille over the handling of tenured faculty terminations and other issues.  There was a lot of discussion in the bistro on this with many different views and concerns.

At the March 1 MBASO event, Dean Joe Savarese spoke to the MBA students on the issues involved with the turmoil.  If you were unable to attend this event, you can read all about it at the bistro.

I want to share part of a comment that I made in the bistro:

"... Not only will the 'college politics' affect the future of the college and the MBA program, but it is also a very real life case study of what we are all here to learn about.  We as students have the chance to analyze the situation, make informed decisions, and participate in solving the issues.

... At a school like Medaille, the students can make a difference but we have to unite and work together to succeed."

With the above comment in mind:

What would your analysis of the situation have been if you were a member of the administration... how about as member of the faculty....

How would you have solved the issues, if you were a member of the administration... how about as a member of the faculty.

What decisions would you have made or made differently,  if you were a member of the administration... how about as a member of the faculty.

Please give your input in the April Gazette Bistro discussion.

New President at Medaille

During the Presidential search,  students had the chance to meet with the three final candidates.  Because many MBA students work during the day, the MBA students got together the weekend before the meetings and came up with a list of questions for the candidates.  See the questions and responses in the bistro.  Students also had a chance to express their opinions on the candidates before the final decision was made.

After a long search process, Dr. Joseph W. Bascuas was named Medaille's next president.  For more information, see the New President announced March 25 bistro.

15 Board Seats Open

Dear Medaille Students & Alumni

The Medaille College Alumni Association -- has 15 board seats open for election this year. This is a great opportunity for the organization to revitalize and move forward with new ideas and projects. We are specifically looking for motivated and pleasant Medaille graduates, who hold a pride in their Alma Mater and might have special talents or interests that would enhance the Board's effectiveness -- and its place in the community. We are looking for a diverse group of men and woman with a variety of program degrees, including MBA's and Accel graduates. If you are graduate of Medaille and are interested in a board position, or if you can recommend anyone that we might approach about this opportunity, please let me know as soon as possible.

Board candidates should brag about themselves in a short bio (200 -300 words) and then send it to me for inclusion in the ballot. These can be sent to me via email or by regular mail in care of the Office of Alumni Relations. Please feel free to call me with any questions.

Sincerely,

David Butler

There have been some ideas that students have expressed interest in seeing in the Gazette.  Be sure to watch for these new columns in future issues.

Would you like to write a column for the Gazette? Do you have an idea for articles, interesting web sites, tutorials, tips and tricks, questions that you would like answered or anything else students might find interesting?

Please forward you thoughts and ideas to Ann Geiger so that they can be added to future issues.

Endquote

A Few Thoughts...

The road to success is not straight.
There is a curve called failure...
A loop called confusion...
Speed bumps called friends...
Red lights called enemies...
Caution lights called family...
You will have flats called jobs.

But...

If you have a spare called determination...
An engine called perseverance...
You will make it to a place called success!
