Is it worth learning this stuff? Can you get paid for working the Web? Is there an Internet industry in Buffalo?
On September 3, 2000, The Buffalo News' First Sunday magazine had a story called The Digital Elite: Meet the pioneers in Buffalo's new dot-com economy. The article featured the CEO's of six companies:
Reciprocal, Inc. | Chek.com | Toolsource.com
Cymfony | Kanoodle.com |
Appraisal.com
Three years later, Chek has morphed into Synacor, but the rest are still active.
These job descriptions will help ground your MBA study in reality. I use such descriptions to help decide what to put in and leave out of this course.
The old way is to email your resume. The new way is to email the url to the interactive, hypertext version of your resume with a video self-interview. Your Parkside Plaza web would be a good place for that.
Are you ready to compete in the Digital Age? More prominent services:
Cool Jobs | Monster | monsterTRAK | America's Employers / Net Temps | America's Job Bank | CareerBuilder
This job description is based on a real one posted in the spring of 1999. Because it probably didn't stay active long, I brought it over to Ricci Street and changed a couple of words to make it less industry-specific. I also added the bold-facing. I did not change any words in the qualifications and compensation sections.
Wherever you see the word Industry, please substitute any industry, such as trucking or chemicals or telecommunications or duct cleaning. The description reflects the then-current rage: portals. Two years before that, it probably would have talked about "push technology" instead. Now, it probably would talk about "marketplaces" or "exchanges". Two years from now, who knows?
